The Tales of Ambia series are fairy tales as you have never seen them before. Perfect for read-alouds, perfect for the whole family, perfect for lovers of rom-coms, perfect for fans or cozy adventures such as Studio Ghibli or Pixar, this series features a grumpy fairy godparent who would rather bake cakes than take care of humans. Whether he’s averting political coups or falling in love, the hilarious escapades of Burndee and his family may be the escape you’re looking for.
Aren’t these old jalopies GORGEOUS? 😍 Cars li Aren’t these old jalopies GORGEOUS? 😍 Cars like this make me think of my books, the Tales of Ambia. One of the things that makes my books different from other fairy tale retellings is the technology: cars are just coming into fashion in this fantasy world, cars that look a lot like the ones pictured here, only my cars are operated by steam and clockworks. It’s exciting to open in a world that is right on the cusp of an industrial revolution and that will feature more heavily in future Tales of Ambia books! But for now, enjoy the motor cars in both this reel and in my books… (link in profile)

Would you ride in one of these cars?

QOTD: What adventures are you having this weekend?
QOTD: What’s one of your favorite films of all t QOTD: What’s one of your favorite films of all time?
.

Films based on true events tend to stick with me, especially when they are well made, and SULLY hits both of those marks for me, making it one of my favorite films of all time.
.
.
I I remember where I was on January 15th 2009 when my mom told me the latest headline: an airplane had crashed in the Hudson River but, by the grace of God, all 155 souls were saved.
.
.
As one of the characters in the movie states: “It's been a while since New York had news this good. Especially with an airplane in it.” The horror of 9/11 was still felt fresh in our minds back then, and the mercy and the miracle of Flight 1549 struck deep.
.
.
IIt’s very rare for me to call a movie flawless: aside from the bad language, there isn’t a thing I would change about SULLY: it’s a masterpiece.
.
.
Beautifully directed by Clint Eastwood, who perfectly captures the trauma of Captain Sullenberger in a movie that is, largely, unscored—letting the eerie echoes of flashbacks serve as the rhythm by which this movie plays out. This film really feels like an art film or independent movie—without losing any of the gloss of Hollywood pieces: it’s one of the best-made movies I’ve seen in a long time. Add to that the performance of the inimitable Tom Hanks and a stellar cast to back him up: and we have one unforgettable experience.
.
.
Warning: there is strong foul language in the film but it was such a good movie it was worth it to me to bleep it out.
.
.
Are there any movies based on true events that you like?

*clears throat* Space Boy.... Okay, okay, let me think of a runner up. I re-read the American Girl doll book Molly's Surprise last December and it filled me with such nostalgia. Such an easy choice for me! My beloved Mistmantle Chronicles are inspiring tales of hope and courage. These stories are full of evil and danger, but the Good is always so much brighter and stronger, it always defeats the dark.
.
.
The Mistmantle Chronicles are so much more than just another "animal with swords" series. They are beautiful adventures that sweep the reader away into a magical place and into a realm full of deep spiritual truths that touch me to the core.
.
.
From giddying moments of joy to scenes so poignant they brought tears to my eyes, this is more than "just a children's series." They are a treasure. They don't just entertain - they illuminate and guide. They sing the song I was created to sing . . . A song of Truth, Eternity, and the One I belong to.
.
.The world building is magical, the plots exciting, and the characters are irresistible. But what truly makes these books amazing are the themes and the feelings they evoke. The power of the Light and Truth. The freedom of Faith. The fulfillment of sacrificial Love. Every time I open these well-worn books I am not only transported, my heart is filled with goodness. This series is truly special, and will always be very close to my heart.

After much prayer, I have decided to step back from offering my developmental services at @theglorywriters. I withdraw not because of any problems I had with Glory Writers: I had a great experience with both the team and my clients. I have stepped away due only to various health concerns and shifting priorities.

I am still a member of the Glory Writers team and you'll still be seeing me over there as a blogger and caption writer, just not as an editor, due to the fact that I am no longer physically able to edit regularly and have felt the Lord's nudge to step back from my initial plan of doing it full-time.

Thank you all for your understanding and support! I truly appreciate everyone's prayers for me as I finally buckle down this year to address my health issues and prioritize my physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

QOTD: What are some of your most anticipated book releases for 2022?

As promised, here is my serious take on this trend As promised, here is my serious take on this trend after gracing you all with my weird / goofy one yesterday! Five Characters From Fiction Who Are A Lot Like Me.
.
.
I know some people try to find themselves in every book or film they watch, but I never do - so it’s more of a shock than a delight to me when I see characters that are like mirrors. I laugh and cringe as I see myself in their strengths and their foibles. Four of these characters have a lot in common: they’re extroverted leaders, jolly, goal-oriented, enthusiastic, big-hearted, and dedicated. They are also sensitive, tend to overcommit, be passive aggressive, ignore red flags, and flee from their own emotions like a camper running from Bigfoot. 🙈
.
.
As for Mary Poppins, @alexandriagracewriter told me that if I didn’t include her she’d make me do this reel over again. I’ve been told I’m a lot like her and she is definitely my personal icon. I do have “a cheery disposition, rosy cheeks, and play games of all sorts.” 😅
.
.
QOTD: What fictional characters do YOU relate to the most? (and don’t worry, despite my goofy reel yesterday, I won’t make another silly joke if you say Anne of Green Gables - I promise!)
I’ve seen this trend a lot lately and, after see I’ve seen this trend a lot lately and, after seeing what felt like the hundredth time of yet another person saying they related to Jo March, Amy March, or Anne of Green Gables, an uncontrollable irreverent urge came over me and I decided to put together my own version of this reel that would be as different as all those reels as it could possibly be. *indulges in an obnoxious horse laugh*
.
.
But seriously, I really do relate a lot to a maniacal Emperor, a busy robot, and a sassy curly-headed cartoon—I’m not kidding. I have no aspirations of being Anne of Green Gables, I know I’m an unliterary nutjob.
.
.
But, just in case you think I am, I will do a “serious” attempt at this reel tomorrow so you can see some less weird characters that I relate to.
.
.
QOTD: What fictional characters do YOU think I’m most like?
QOTD: What are your goals for the New Year? . . I QOTD: What are your goals for the New Year?
.
.
I had SO MANY plans for 2024, but then in December I got hit with a health crash on top of preexisting situations and my plans were preempted. I still hope to recover by the end of January so that I can get back to writing, as I’m used to working while in physical discomfort, but I’ve been too emotionally and mentally frazzled to work on fiction. Aside from writing, another avenue I was exploring in 2022 came prematurely to an end because of this crisis, and I found myself discouraged about how to proceed.
.
Fortunately, the Holy Spirit gave me a nudge towards a better attitude and I started wondering how something difficult could be used as an OPPORTUNITY. That one closed door means I can try something else that I think God has been whispering to me to try for a while. Having to go slow and rest can be an opportunity to find out things that will improve my health long term. Not being able to write fiction gives me a chance to work a little more on the type of writing I can always seem to manage no matter how I’m feeling: non-fiction.
.
January isn’t looking the way I thought it would, and maybe 2022 won’t either. But the other morning, I had a moment of excitement as I stopped fighting what had happened to me for a moment, listened to God’s suggestions of new opportunities and said in faith: “You’re on, Lord!” I don’t know what’s next, but let’s do it—whatever it is. Jesus, help me to do it.
.
He’s in control and I know His plan is better than anything I could ever come up with.
.
Praying that you and I will hold onto our plans loosely, and look to Him in 2023, as the Great Author of all our lives! Happy New Year, my friends. ⭐️

I'm very pleased to see Beauty and the Beast and Narnia in this line up. I'm also gratified to see my post announcing that I have now officially hung out my shingle for developmental editing getting lots of love. Merry Christmas! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend full of the presence of the Prince of Peace. ✝️
QOTD: What are you currently reading this holiday QOTD: What are you currently reading this holiday season?
.
.
I joked with you all in my last reel that I have been on a very un-Christmas-y Star Wars kick recently but then, VOILA, I found this Life Day collection that has the saccharine writing and beautiful illustrations that one looks for in Christmas coffee table books, so I think it sums up the zeitgeist of the season pretty well. 😁
.
.
The first story I read, naturally, was the Ewok one because I ADORE Ewoks. I burst into excited squeals and a hippity-hoppity dance when I realized it was based on one of my favorite Star Wars stories of all time: THE EWOK ADVENTURE - a 1984 film that, sadly, hardly anyone knows about. In my opinion, watching and loving the Ewok Adventure movie starring Warwick Davis is what makes a TRUE Star Wars fan. 😉
This is the first time in nine years my family has This is the first time in nine years my family has had a Christmas tree and while I absolutely love having it again, it also makes me sad, because the last memories I have of a Christmas tree is nearly a decade ago, a month into my sudden collide with chronic illness. I struggled greatly that holiday trying to celebrate despite the fact that my life had changed.
.
.
And now, this year, a second health crisis has struck me this December. As I tried to decorate while in considerable pain from both this new crisis and my chronic condition; the tree suddenly made me sad. Will it always have connotations of suffering to me?
.
.
But it’s not just my pain I’m wrestling with: many of my friends are going through heartbreaking things: awful diagnoses, terrible family situations, unwelcome moves, and more. Shocking news from a friend in real life was the final straw. I felt overwhelmed with the disparity of the holidays and what people are going through in their day to day lives.
.
.
I took out my Bible and read through Luke again and, as I read, let the Holy Spirit preach to me again of what I already knew, though I had let the truth of it wan.
.
.
Christmas represents unspeakable joy and rejoicing: but it also represents suffering.
.
.
Jesus came into the world to suffer: His humiliation did not begin on the cross; it began in the stable, as He deigned to take the form of a helpless baby.
.
.
The glad tidings we celebrate this month are that Jesus came to promise a way out of sin and broken world that causes suffering: not in this life, but the next. We are promised comfort and joy IN the suffering: as much as our Westernized ideas of Christmas try to convince us that our problems should disappear in the holiday season, the problems remain.
.
.
But as we wrestle with the disparity of rejoicing amidst suffering, it is vital to remember that He suffered everything: pain, rejection, a family that did not understand or accept Him, humiliation, hunger, cold, uncertainty, lack, the death of loved ones. He felt and carried it all: the suffering of every person who has ever lived and who ever will live.
